Welcome to the next in our series about our amazing St. Pierre’s assistant managers!
Today we’re hanging around in Hastings, this time in the Bento Bowl department, talking to Rod.
Rod with co-worker Ning, at the recent Assistant Manager conference
Originally from the Philippines, Rod came to NZ a few years ago now. He moved around a little before settling in Hastings with his wife.
“We really like the lifestyle here in Hastings. It’s warm – but not as warm as back home! – but really relaxed. We have a one-year-old child now, so we like the low-stress environment.”
Rod joined the Hastings shop three years ago, and advanced to become assistant manager after around a year. He is now a mainstay of the Bento Bowl team in this busy store. Perhaps unusually, he has yet to work at another shop.
“Now you mention it, I’ve only ever worked at one shop! But I like it here, and I’m looking forward to my next challenge. For now, there’s always a lot to do!”
As well as helping the manager with scheduling and staff training, Rod has plenty of hands-on work to do. He is known among our Hawke’s Bay shops as an expert salmon filleter, knowing just how to get the most possible slices of our popular jumbo salmon from each fish. If you’re stuck, maybe ask him for some tips next time you see him!
If you’re visiting Hastings, or just passing through on your way to the coast or wineries, be sure to stop by and see Rod and the team. And here’s to great people taking on more challenges across the St. Pierre’s Group!
